On Saturday June 9th, thousands of cyclists began a 200 km journey from Toronto to Niagara Falls to raise money to fight cancer. In 2017, the Ride to Conquer Cancer was able to raise over $20.5 million for cancer research. Two members of the Harvey Kalles team, Howard Biderman and Elise Stern, participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. On Sunday June 10th, Diane Litchen, a member of the Harvey Kalles Team, participated in a fundraiser called “Walk, Talk ‘n Roll 2018, with all funds going to The Aphasia Institute. In addition, Diane volunteers two mornings per week at The Aphasia Institute. The goal of the institute is to give people suffering from aphasia their confidence back. On Monday June 4th, several members of the Harvey Kalles Team attended Project Giveback at Park Lane Public School. The goal of this program is to teach Grade 3 students the importance of charity and philanthropy by allowing them to pick a cause, do research on the cause, and then present it to their fellow classmates. Harvey Kalles has been a sponsor of Project Giveback for many years, and supports Ellen Schwartz, the founder of the program. In addition, the Joey Award, named after the late Joey Goodbaum, is given to two students who exemplify what it is to be a young leader in the community.
